The initial of the signature is not very legible, it could be read as B, and the author could be identified as the artist Ettore De Maria Bergler (Naples, 1850 - Palermo, 1938), a pupil of Francesco Lojacono, in Naples he was in contact with Dalbono, Morelli and Palizzi, and he was also in Florence, where he frequented the Macchiaioli circle; he was a skilled portraitist.
